What to do with the kids in Moncton this weekend (Nov 15-17)

It has begun!!! The Holiday season is officially upon us, and we’ve got all the info you need for family events and activities to get you into the spirit and keep the kiddos smiling all weekend long – and we’ll keep doing this every weekend, just like we have for nearly five years now!

Before we dive into ALL the family events happening this weekend, a special shout out for all you ladies looking for some shopping time for yourself. Head on over to Riverview’s Coverdale Centre (50 Runnymeade Road, by the splash pad – yes, there’s a splash pad in Riverview and it’s great!) for the Grapevine Events consignment sale this Saturday morning!

Shop the closets of 100 local women, everything from casual to cocktail, purses to shoes, home and holiday decor, and so much more. Doors are open Saturday at 9am; entry is $2 cash, but you can pay cash or debit for your sale purchases. The pop-up closes from noon until 1pm, then it’s DISCOUNT SHOPPING until 3pm (most remaining items will be 50% off). Then, it’s gone until the Spring! Don’t miss out!

FRIDAY

Come on out to see some furry friends of all shapes and sizes at The Moncton Kennel Club’s Annual Dog Show, taking place this weekend at the Moncton Coliseum, with shows Friday 3-8pm, Saturday 9am-4:30pm, and Sunday 8am-4:30pm. General admission is $5, and FREE for kiddos aged 12 and under.

There’s a FREE showing of The Lion King (2019) at FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT on Friday at the Riverview Community Hall from 6-8:30pm. Enjoy free popcorn and a cash canteen provided by the Riverview Skate Park. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Moncton Wildcats are playing a home game vs the Gatineau Olympiques at the Avenir Centre on Friday from 7-10pm! Grab tickets for your little hockey fans HERE.

The Holiday Wishlist Expo is taking place at the Moncton Wesleyan Celebration Centre on Friday from 3-8pm and Saturday from 10am-5pm. Santa himself will be making an appearance on Saturday 12-2pm!

Check out the Christmas Open House from 10am-4pm at RD MacLean Co Ltd Book Shop. Enjoy Hot Apple Cider and Cookies while you browse the distinctive gifts and souvenirs for Christmas.

For the cinephiles in your family, the Festival international du cinéma francophone en Acadie is on now, running November 14-22 at the théâtre Escaouette & Cineplex Dieppe. Take a gander at the calendar HERE.

SATURDAY

Don’t forget – make plans to pop into the Grapevine Events pop up consignment sale at the Coverdale Centre! You can head there for 9am, then make your way to all the other great markets and fairs happening.

The 7th Annual Wintergreen Craft Fair is taking place at the Moncton Lions Club this year, from 9am-4pm. There will be 50 vendor tables, door prizes, live music, and more! This is always one of the best holiday markets in our community.

Join the students at Shediac Cape School for the kick off to the holidays Fall Fair on Saturday from 9am-2pm at the school. There will be a 50/50 draw, door prizes, baked goods, original artwork, crafts, jewelry and more.

The Magnetic Hill School Christmas Tea and Craft Fair will also be taking place on Saturday from 9am-2pm, with 25+ local vendors, and tea, coffee, sandwiches and sweets served by the Grade 8 students. Another holiday favourite!

The Medavie Health Ed students will be having an Open House Fundraiser with a BBQ, Bake Sale, CPR Demonstration, and Raffle Basket from 11am-4pm at the Medavie Health Ed New Brunswick Campus.

For the crafter in your family, check out Christmas Maker’s Day at Front Porch Mercantile from 9:30am-4:30pm. This “Traditional Vintage” crafting workshop will include 4 projects that will appeal to those that love a classic red and green holiday. There will be a combination of indoor and outdoor projects that you will be proud to gift, or want to keep for yourself! Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Or, try the Holiday-themed Beginner Embroidery Workshop at Carte Blanche Studio from 2-5pm. Learn the four beginner stitches that can be used to create all kinds of embroidery magic!

If you’re looking for some magically festive family Christmas photos, book a Mini Session at Yuletide Tree Farm with Two Little Twigs Photography, held on Saturday from 11am-5pm, or a Christmas Minis session with Megan Snair Photography available this weekend only at Close to the Heart Baby Boutique, or Outdoor Christmas Mini Sessions with Megan McKinley Photography at Mill Creek Park in Riverview from 2-4pm.

And don’t miss Santa’s Arrival and the unveiling of Santa’s Wonderland at Bass Pro Shops from 5-8pm on Saturday; this is always a popular event! Enjoy FREE hot chocolate, crafts, photos with Santa, tree lighting, and giveaways.

Santa is also arriving at CF Champlain on Saturday. We love using the online booking feature to schedule our visit and avoid line ups!

For some non-holiday focused fun …

For ages 11+, try the Create your own Terrarium workshop in the makerspace at the Moncton Public Library from 10am-12pm. Registration required.

Cineplex’s $2.99 family favourite movies continue every Saturday. This weekend, enjoy Charlotte’s Web, playing at 11am at Cineplex Cinemas Dieppe.

The whole family is invited to join the Associação de Brasileiros de New Brunswick for Brazilian Storytime, stories and songs in Portuguese and a fun craft at the Moncton Public Library from 3-4pm.

Teen Cuisine for Ages 13+ is on from 10:30am-12:30pm at the Medavie Community Kitchen. Your teen chefs will learn kitchen safety, basic knife and cooking skills, and how to make a beautiful and delicious meal out of fresh produce and everyday pantry items. $5 per participant. Register by email: adam.obrien@foodepot.ca or on site at the Peter Mckee Food Bank.

Bring your gamers on out to Gamezlila Moncton for the Yugioh Box Event from 11am-7pm.

Rock the Rink gildes into The Avenir Centre at 8pm on Saturday, for an epic figure skating event starring Tessa Virtue, Scott Moir, Patrick Chan, Kaetlyn Osmond, Elvis Stojko, Carolina Kostner, Jeremy Abbott, and more! With special musical guest BIRDS OF BELLWOODS. Get tickets HERE.

A Gospel Music Concert will be held at the Hillsborough Kiwanis Center at 7pm on Sunday, featuring Burning Bush, For the Cross, Meaghan Allen, & Dustin Steeves. Admission is $8.00, and proceeds go toward a children’s treat at the Hillsborough Christmas Parade.

One last holiday note for Saturday: if you’re up for a little road trip, the annual Saint John Santa Claus Parade is this Saturday. The parade starts at 6pm on Crown street, there’s a free Pre-Parade Party, starting at 1pm at the Market Square Atrium for tons of extra kiddo festivities! (Don’t forget – Moncton’s parade is next Saturday, November 23!)

Also on Saturday, the Saint John Free Public Library welcomes you to enjoy their planned holiday games and crafts, and the New Brunswick Museum will be offering 50% OFF general admission from 10am – 5pm!

SUNDAY

If you’re up for that Saint John trip and have a budding fashionista, you might want to head to L Models on Sunday for the 3rd Annual Fashion Feeds the Cure fundraising day of fashion in support of the New Brunswick Breast Cancer Network. Back-to-back runway shows every hour will start at 11am, and the last show will start at 8pm. Enjoy designer’s vendor tables, red carpet, photography pit, Sankara Cuisine snacks, and more.

The third Sunday of every month is Sensory Sunday at the Moncton Public Library from 10am-12pm. This drop-in program provides children of all ages and their families a variety of sensory experiences in a calm environment. Supervision required.

Later, children aged 8-12 years old will become scientists at Science Sunday at the Moncton Public Library from 3-4pm. This interactive activity teaches kids crazy (and educational) experiments! Please call 506-869-6000 to register.

Attend an afternoon of entertainment at TIS the Season, featuring The Richard Family, Mark Lloyd, Les Fireflies, Samantha Robichaud, Ivan and Vivian Hicks and more. Proceeds to Riverview P.R.O. Kids and the Albert County Food Bank. Showtime is 2pm at the Riverview Arts Centre.

LOOKING AHEAD

Four By Four – “The Holiday Show” features four top Las Vegas based performers who celebrate in person the music of The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Bee Gees, and Motown. This all-ages show takes place Monday evening at Casino New Brunswick from 7-10pm.

Light Up Riverview is taking place next Thursday night; this is always such a lovely event and the lights along the river are simply magical!

Next weekend is a busy one, with lots of events that typically kick off Moncton’s holiday celebrations, with the Antler Breakfast, the Santa Claus Parade, Christmas at the Coliseum, and LOTS of great events planned. We’ll have all the details next week – and remember, some kiddos have Friday off school again, so you KNOW you’ll be looking for ideas.

Also keep an eye out for the return of Project Nice List – a great way to remind ourselves what it means to connect with our family and friends this time of year.
