You guys, I’m not quite sure what’s happened to this month, but we are somehow just days away from May! If you haven’t started to think about Mother’s Day yet, I suggest you get cracking! Need a little inspiration? Check out this post from a few years ago about what Mom REALLY wants; ladies, it’s more than likely you’re the one reading this, but check out the link. I think you’ll like it! (We also have a few posts about motherhood that are sure to tug at your heartstrings, about dealing with issues like infertility and surrogacy on occasions like this.)
Alrighty, on to the last weekend in April, my friends!
Riverview High School is bringing The Sound of Music to the stage this weekend. There are shows Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, including two matinees.
Saturday is one of my favourite events of the year – FRYE festival’s KidsFest! Enjoy readings by Nadia Hohn and Alain Lessard, visits with therapy dogs, a chance to learn braille, lots of book-related crafts and games, and all kinds of mascots! It’s always such fun! The festival has lots of workshops and reading events for all ages happening throughout the week; we’re looking forward to the Sunday afternoon session on telling stories through drawing with Matt James.
If you’re like me and are in need of new glasses, make a point of stopping by Off the Wall Eyewear Emporium this Saturday. (Tell Steve & Jen we sent you; they rock!) They are giving out thousands of dollars worth of gift prizes, they’ll have the entire line of Gucci Eyewear available for the first time in Moncton, the entire PUMA Kids like will be available, and there will be discounts and maybe even cake!
We love The Clayspace and the awesome workshops they create – including this weekend’s event with Mother’s Day in mind! Drop the kids off Saturday morning for two hours; they’ll make you a gift while you enjoy some ‘me time.’ Pop back to the studio in two weeks to pick up a handmade gift you’re sure to treasure. All this for just $30 (plus tax) per child; family discounts available. Register by email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Folks from the Musée acadien de l’Université de Moncton will be at Resurgo Place Saturday morning for another Toys All Around Us workshop.
Chapters is always fun to visit with the kids, but Saturday mornings offer a little extra! This week, it’s decorating Hot Wheels die-cast cars. Call 855-8075 to secure a spot at this free event; and tell them you read about it on Pickle Planet!
At Toys R Us on Saturday afternoon you can take part in the Play Big Family Challenge. Parents and kids join together in friendly challenges, testing accuracy at a NERF station, skills in the Little Tikes zone, and more!
The DanceFit Sisters are hosting a family Zumba event at the Moncton Wesleyan Church on Saturday afternoon. This fundraiser for Harvest House will feature a kids Zumba session, followed by an adult one with kid activities to keep the littles entertained.
Our great friends in the local digital world are hosting an awesome event on Saturday; BBLink is a workshop that brings together influencers and local businesses to collaborate and better understand each others’ approach to marketing strategies. You might want to grab a seat if you’re a local business owner or aspiring influencer!
Sunday afternoon kids ages four to 17 can try ringette with the Riverview Ringette Association. Pre-register and bring you helmet, skates, and gloves.
The Jeunes Chanteurs d’Acadie celebrates its 50th anniversary with a performance at the Capitol on Sunday afternoon. Children 12 and under are just $12 admission; regular tickets $30.
This Sunday is Go Beyond Earth Day at the Dieppe Market, starting bright and early with yoga, a local food buffet, lots of vendors and exhibitors, kids activities throughout the day, and much mor!
And for more on Earth Day, green and zero waste living, and how to do that all as a parent, check out last week’s Pickle Planet Podcast!
Still looking for more weekend ideas? All the details on swimming times, bowling lanes, trampoline fun, axe throwing, arcades, and much more on our MEGA LIST of Things to Do with the Kids in Moncton!
Our Playground Profiles are sort-of back on track for the season; the weather hasn’t really been helping us get out and explore lately! We plan to have a new post this Tuesday, but we’d also suggest you check out our current profiles for lots of insights on local playgrounds – tons of photos highlighting where there are fences, infant swings, older kid climbing gear, and so on. And might we suggest planning a final trip to the current All World Super Play Park soon? The current structure is set to be replaced before summer!
We’d LOVE if you could give a quick click through to this Facebook event and share it with any Saint John area friends & family. More than 60 families are selling their gently-loved baby & kids gear at Exhibition Park on Saturday morning. Public shopping is 10am until noon, then from 12:30 to 1:30pm it is Discount Hour, with many items 50% off! Thank you & have an amazing weekend, whatever adventures you enjoy!
