15 Things to Do With the Family This Weekend in the Moncton Area (Jan 25-27)

Hard to believe it’s the weekend already, after the week we’ve had! And don’t forget: Monday is a scheduled PD day for Anglophone East students in K-8! Need some quick ideas for getting out of the house? Don’t forget our MEGA list of local things to do, as well as our Winter Fun list! Now, on to this weekend’s highlights!

(As always, please double check all events before heading out, in case weather interferes with plans.)

Fridays are for Fun on Ice at the skating oval in Dieppe! Music this week by Countryside, staring at 6:30pm.

The Tantramar Family Resource Centre is holding a Family Literacy Day event on Friday evening, with the authors of Follow the Goose Butt and Enid Strange, yoga, music, pizza, and more!

Saturday morning in Riverview you can enjoy a Lions Club Pancake Breakfast supporting the MS Society. Entertainment provided by Ivan and Vivian Hicks! A family of four can eat for $20, maybe less (children five and under eat free!).

Skate Canada Professional Coach Carol Cormier is hosting free learn-to-skate sessions at the Ian Fowler Oval on Saturday mornings. There is a maximum of 15 spots; first come, first served. You must have a CSA-approved helmet. The sessions run from 10am until noon.

The folks from Brilliant Labs will be at Resurgo Place Saturday morning sharing hands-on fun with coding, 3D printing, circuitry, and more! (Included with admission.)

Saturday is also the opening of the newest traveling exhibit at Resurgo Place; Worlds of the Night, all about nighttime mysteries and nocturnal animals!

Saturday at 11am you can pop by Chapters for a special story time featuring a reading of the online sensation The Wonky Donkey!

The Moncton Chinese School of Greater Moncton Chinese Cultural Association will host an hour of stories and songs in Mandarin at the Moncton Library Saturday morning.

Resurgo Place’s Repair Fair, a partnership with Café de Réparation Moncton Repair Café, takes place Saturday morning. Bring small appliances to see if volunteers can fix them, or offer them up to the Constructive Destruction lab to feed someone’s curiosity.

Maggie’s Place Family Resource Centre in Amherst is planning a fantastic family literacy day event on Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Razzmatazz will provide entertainment from 11am until noon, there will be a book exchange, and more much fun. Call 902-667-7250 for more details!

Saturday nights at 6:30pm, the music begins at the Ian Fowler Oval at Avenir Centre! Enjoy outdoor skating in the heart of downtown Moncton.

Saturday night at the Avenir Centre is also time for hockey, with the Wildcats hosting the Mooseheads.

The Moncton Library is hosting local award-winning author Jennifer McGrath and musicians Marie-France Comeau and Lucien Allard for a Family Literacy Day event on Sunday morning.

POSTPONED: The first ever Harness Dog Sport event in Fundy Park is scheduled for Sunday, organized by the Fundy Guild and Moncton Dog Runners. There is a Canicross Fun Run at 11am in the morning, with spectators welcomed and encouraged. There are demos of Skijoring, Bikejoring, Kick sled, and Canicross from noon until 2pm. WATCH FOR THIS IN FEBRUARY!

A reminder these are the HIGHLIGHTS – lots of great ideas, like the climbing rock at the Dieppe Boys and Girls Club, bowling, skating, movies, and more are featured on our MEGA list, as they happen regularly!

This is the last weekend in January, which means the deadline to send Valentine’s to Veterans is coming up quickly! A great way to spend some time giving back with the family. Happy adventuring, everyone!
