I’m not one for New Year’s Resolutions, but I do love a great tradition. Here’s how I’m combining the two, while focusing on my family.
Today I started our first official family yearbook. It’s a slim notebook that will be tucked inside a cupboard in our kitchen or stashed on the bookshelf in the living room. The main idea: have it handy to where most of the family activity takes place. Whenever something fun happens, whether it’s a joke one of the kids makes up or a quiet evening just spent together, we’ll take a moment and jot down the memory.
One year from now, we’ll look back and reminisce about our year. About the real moments that make up our family life. I’m sure a few of the entries will be about challenging, frustrating moments as well. Milestone moments will include potty training twins and our eldest starting school. But it’s the hidden joys of daily life that I’m going to enjoy rereading the most.
My husband and I rang in 1996 together. This is how we’re starting 2016. I’m hoping that 20 years from now, we’re pulling out a box of this yearbooks together and toasting an amazing life with our three children. It’s a beatiful image to start off the year!
Do you keep a journal of family life? How do you capture the moments for the future? I’d love for you to share!
