What to Do With the Kids This Weekend in Moncton (Apr 27-29)

Welcome to the weekend – and finally some warm weather!

The big excitement this weekend is the twice-a-year Moncton Multiples Consignment Sale! If you haven’t been, you need to check it out! Gently-used baby & kid items – clothing, shoes, toys, sports gear, costumes, nursery items, etc for ages newborn to teen – from 200 families, but all organized like a store. Doors open at 9am to the public; admission is $2 cash. You can pay cash or debit for sale purchases; there are ATMs on site. The sale also features a Vendor Market with 20 of the best local businesses; browse through items from Wee Little Munchkins, Farm Girl Design, The Fudge Ladies, All the Pretties, Close to the Heart, Monkey Bum Designs, East Coast Stitches, NewB Babies, Rock Paper Scissors, Prince & Princess Lil Shop, Birdie & Bub Clothing Co, Mama Bean’s Boutique, Sparks of Love and Ginger, The Mug Lady, The Dryer Balls, Andrea Steeves Quigley Scentsy, Elizabeth Hawkes Knowledge First Financial, Lyne Robichaud – Norwex Independent Sales Consultant, Barefoot Books Babe, Nicole Hillier – Discovery Toys Educational Consultant, and VX Wellness.

After you shop, you can grab a bite at Legends, the Coliseum pub, then check out the Parent Palooza happening in Agrena C until 4pm. This event includes information booths with local family-focused businesses, bouncy castles, face painting, and more. Admission is $3 per adult, $1 for children over age two; infants are free. There is also a car seat clinic happening at the event; call ahead this week to book a spot, 384-7874. You can also sign up in advance for one of two free family yoga sessions happening at the event.

Another fantastic family event planned for Saturday is the third annual Autism Walk. Gather at the Wesleyan Church at 10am for opening remarks. There will be a long route, a short route, and a 5km route to choose from. You can also enjoy indoor activities with My Gym, Mad Science, Diversity Booking (superheros and other characters), Bricks4Kidz, and much more. Outside you can find a fire truck, an RCMP cruiser, an ambulance, mini fire engine rides, bouncy castles (weather permitting), and more. This is a fantastic community event that keeps growing and getting better each year!

Cineplex’s Family Favourite this week is Pup Star: World Tour.

Scholar’s Choice theme for its Smart Saturdays (free hands-on activities in the store from noon till 2) is teacher appreciation.

Toys R Us will have some of the new dinosaur Fingerlings to test out instore on Saturday.

Michaels has a tie-dye slime takehome craft on Saturday afternoon.

Resurgo Place holds crafternoon activities on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday evening there’s a great all-ages fundraiser at the Dieppe Boys & Girls club, in support of a local dance troupe planning a conference trip to Australia. Enjoy a spaghetti supper, silent auction, and much more.

It might not be warm enough to swim outside yet, but there are lots of public swim times to enjoy! Check out the schedules for the Pat Crossman Aquatic Centre in Riverview, the Moncton YMCA, the Dieppe Aquatic Centre, St. Pat’s Family Centre, and the pool at Universite de Moncton.

Sunday at the Moncton Library there’s a storytime in Arabic in the morning and a DIY Bath Bombs workshop in the afternoon for ages 11 and older; call 869-6000 to register.

Sunday afternoon plans? You can cheer on the Moncton Magic as they host the Halifax Hurricanes at the Moncton Coliseum. Doors open at 1pm!
