What to do with the Kids in Moncton this Weekend (Sept 29 – Oct 1)

Can you believe it – we’re about to enter October already?! I don’t know about you, but September seems like the fastest month ever – and it’s going out with a bang! Lots of things to do with the family this weekend, so let’s get going, shall we?

Remember, you can always check out our list of local attractions and ongoing events for ideas for outings, as well as our round up of apple orchards, pumpkin patches, and more. We also have a Fall Bucket List you can print off, and some fun ideas for Halloween costumes.

Don’t forget – registration for next year’s Kindergarten classes begins shortly. (And with that, a little primer on dealing with the dreaded L-word.) Also, speaking of school, did you all see that the playground at Riverview Middle School/Frank L. Bowser Elementary needs some help? The All World Super Play Park is showing its age (maybe having a bit of a quarter-life crisis) and is looking to raise money for a much-needed face lift. While this may be a school playground, it’s really a community asset that families from all over our area can use and could support. They’ve got a Chase the Ace game, a bottle drive, and more.

Now, on to this weekend’s fun!

There are lots of great activities going on at the Moncton Library this weekend, including the annual Halloween costume swap! Drop off a clean, gently-used Halloween costume on Friday between 10am and 5pm or Saturday between 10am and noon. You’ll get a ticket; come back with that between 2pm and 4pm to pick up a new-to-you costume and to make a Halloween craft.

Friday nights are chess club nights at Edith Cavell School! Chess Club is for students in K to 12, cost is $2.50/week, and goes from 6:30pm to 8pm.

Everyone is invited to a birthday party on Friday – at Lollipops and Gumdrops! This fabulous shop is celebrating in style, with in-store specials and giveaways from brands such as AppleCheeks, Monkey Bum Designs, Wee Little Munchkins, Ganz, Farm Girl Design, Buttercup Cakes and Cookies, Melissa & Doug, and more!

The Green Pig is holding flashlight corn maze nights on Friday and Saturday (7pm to 9pm); it’s also opening weekend for their Zombie Wars paintball.

The Wildcats hold their season opener Friday night against the Saint John Sea Dogs. This is the last season the ‘Cats call the Coliseum home; cheer them on as the puck drops at 7pm. They face off against the Islanders on Saturday night.

Saturday morning’s Family Favourite movie is Boss Baby.

Lots of chances to be crafty at Michaels this weekend, with two sessions on Saturday. The Kids Club activity (10am to noon) is a pom pom pumpkin banner, and the afternoon session is decorating a pumpkin.

Enjoy some fresh air and night skies at the 10k Under 10 Million Stars at Kouchibouguac National Park on Saturday evening. No registration or fee, just show up ready to go for a 7:30pm departure. The loop begins at Pijeboogwek; bring water and glow sticks!

There’s a great event happening Saturday – the Quintessence Breastfeeding Challenge! This is a fun, welcoming event for everyone, with lots of goodies to be given away. Join the Albert-Kent-Westmorland Baby Friendly Initiatives Regional Committee in the courtyard in front of Sears at 10am.

Sunday is also a great day to check out the Riverview Skatepark & Youth Centre; they’re holding an all ages free skate! Doors open at 11am.

Moncton’s first Autism Expo is happening Sunday at CCNB in Dieppe. Visit more than two dozen organizations and hear presentations, starting at 10am.

Know someone expecting twins or triplets? Be sure to tell them about the upcoming information session for new & expecting parents, organized by Moncton Multiples!
